Love, Love, Love this place! I just need to drive out there more often; however, I was in the area last Wednesday evening and stopped by and got their Sunlight "Burger" and Maki Sushi Roll to bring home...and their Purple Haze smoothie to enjoy while driving home! Oh how I could eat from The Present Moment Cafe EVERY day!!! :-)

Re: What is a Pearl Life?

Thanks for your question. Because muscadines have 2 extra chromosomes and such an innate ability to heal themselves on the vine, especially in fungal attacks, NP has discovered a proprietary method for the watering and harvesting that produces extremely high antioxidants and phenolics, as measured by Brunswick labs. Each of their providers has to prove the same levels and is regularly tested. I am not sure why the owners have not placed the organic label on the site and will check into it, but I think that placing any type of chemicals on the muscadines (unlike a regular grape that usually needs daily sprays of chemicals to protect it) would inhibit its own triggers to protect and heal, thus lending itself to have a lower grade in the phenoiics. They have thrown away 200,000 pounds of pomice before for not meeting these standards.Essentially the growers would be producing an inferior crop which would not be accepted and purchased by NP. Thanks for your question. I will look into it more!

Re: What is a Pearl Life?

Hello! I see you mention that Natures Pearl muscadine grapes are grown organically. I do not see this claim on the Natures Pearl corporate site, nor do I see a USDA certified organic seal. Can you please explain this claim?

Re: Maggie’s Herb Farm

Great post Sophia. I have a habit killing my plants as well...my poor tomatoes & cilantro are not looking good right now. But the peppers are doing great. I'm definitely going to check out Maggie's Herb Farm. Thanks for the info. BTW, I love your profile pic. Did your son take it?

Re: Maggie’s Herb Farm

Lovely, Sophie! You can add a little mint to one of your juices, too, for a nice 'kick'! Put it in the juicer with some other greens and harder fruit on top, and then push it through...

Nice blog entry and pics! I think it is so exciting that we can cross over and apply our creativity to so many areas, at different seasons in our life. You are blessed with a talent of voice, which I do not have, as my youngest son would cry for me to please stop, when I sang to him! :) But we all have unique talents and gifts and bless others when we put them to good use. I wish you the best in all of your creative endeavors!

Re: Painting to Shine

Dear Sophia,I want to thank you for sharing your insights...I too am a mother an artist,a wife and a daughter taking care of quite elderly parents...I come from a family of artists(my father,at 91 is a pianist, singer, composer and ever writing music..He is also an artist. My mother ,a wonderful artist ,took me out painting along with my sisters, when i was three...We were so lucky to have an open channel to creativity.I developed my talents and earned a degree in opera ,then a masters degree in acting..now my voice has turned to painting..In this world of many "nos",we have been given the gift to encourage others to believe in their creative hearts...to say "yes"to the small every day joys that shine our way always...Thank you for keeping the flame brightly burning fo rus all...Your words have encouraged me greatly.Sincerely,Christy

Re: Ben 10 mural

"We are having success with our behavior program, and I am helping him to learn that he is in control of his emotions and esp. his subsequent behavior. (This is still a hard one for us grown-ups sometimes!) But he really struggles with it. We have been focusing on changing our thoughts and focusing on good thoughts, (Phil. 4:8) Art is a wonderful distraction for him, and he gets lost in it.
